This is one of the many questions we will be discussing this week.

Week 5: Walk to School Week

It is the final week before half term and we will be considering the advantages of walking to school. What do you think are the advantages of walking to school?
Please remember your PE kit each day so we can take every opportunity to go outside (weather permitting) and practise for Sports' Day.
This week I will also need a group of children to help with the teacher interviews on Thursday.

Week 3: Extreme weather conditions

The May Day assembly went really well on Friday and it was so nice to see Leoni and her family back for a visit. I will upload some photos when I get back to school. I hope you have all enjoyed the sunshine this weekend for the May Day Bank Holiday.
It's back to school tomorrow with only 4 days left until the SATs next week so there will be lots of revision this week!
There will be a Gold Child assembly on Thursday and swimming sessions start on Friday.

Summer Term 2014: Here, there and everywhere...

Welcome back everyone!
I hope you have all had a great Easter break and are ready for your final term at Barnack School.
This term's topic has a Geography focus and we will be learning about places in Great Britain, in Europe and around the world.
Have you visited an interesting place during your holiday? Can you locate it on a map and explain where it is?

What a brilliant afternoon!

Once upon a time some children visited Walcot Estate. Their very own game keeper, Jack, showed them around and some kind ladies helped with the transport. The afternoon ended with an expedition

 into the unknown....the unforgettable swamp....
A huge thank you to everyone who helped us have such an exciting afternoon!

Week 12: Our visit to Walcot Estate

Only one week left now until the Easter break!
We need to prepare for the Palm Service in school on Friday morning and get ready for our Walcot visit on Wednesday afternoon.

Well done to all the teams, cross country, netball and football, for your super efforts last week.
On Monday we will be visiting Peterborough City Hospital to learn about what happens in the A&E Department in an emergency so please arrive at school promptly.
We are having the 'special' Year 6 group photo taken on Tuesday so please bring along anything that you would like to be holding that would reflect your interests and hobbies, eg musical instrument or sports equipment.
The netball team have a game against Peterborough School on Wednesday afternoon and on Friday the School Council have organised a fundraising day for Sport Relief.
Add some Sporty word problems to the Blog for your friends to answer...
I need 7004 red  footballs and 639 blue footballs?
They come in packs of 10. How many packs do I
need to buy?

Week 9: Pheasant Phenomena

This week you will be continuing to be news reporters to update your readers with the strange happenings at the Filling Station.
We have another busy week ahead with some children doing Cross Country at Copthill on Monday afternoon. Tuesday is Science Day- packed with fun experiments and activities. After school on Wednesday there will be football and netball games against Castor (at Barnack). Soke Football and Netball games are at AMVC on Thursday afternoon so a real sporting week!
Imagine you are the news reporter interviewing one of the onlookers at the filling station. What would you write in your report? Would you use direct or reported speech?

Mr Victor Hazell was horrified at the sight. "But they are my pheasants," he shouted, "and they have ruined  my beautiful Rolls Royce!"
Or....
Mr Victor Hazell was horrified at the sight. He said that they were his pheasants and that they had  ruined his beautiful Rolls Royce.
Enjoy some photos from last week...

Week 8: Rockabye Baby

Well, we are nearly at the end of the book and it just gets more and more exciting... I agree with Isobel, I don't want it to end!
A huge thank you to Mrs Humphreys for displaying your beautiful collage work- it looks amazing. Now the fun starts with the DT project.
We have a busy week ahead with Pancake races on Tuesday morning and walking to Church on Wednesday for the Ash Wednesday Service at 9.30am. It is World Book day on Thursday and you are invited to come to school dressed as a favourite character from a book.
Thank you for all your character descriptions last week; you really are becoming 'Wonderful Writers'.

Week 7: Will the 'Sleeping Beauty' plan work?

Welcome back everyone!
I hope you've all had a great half term break and I look forward to catching-up with all your news.
Back to school means remembering everything that you need each day - it would be useful to have your PE kit in school all week ready for any extra practices because I know that Soke football and netball are coming up very soon.

Can you write an interesting character description? Remember to include description, action and dialogue.
Use this as your starting line...

The tall figure stood in the doorway.

Week 6: E-Safety Week

Please remind your parents about the E Safety workshop tomorrow, Monday 10th February, at 6.30pm- they are all very welcome.
When you are online, always remember the SMART code!

Week 5: Why are Roald Dahl's characters so interesting?

Who is your favourite character from a Roald Dahl story? Why? How are they described?
This week we will learn more about Doc Spencer...

The weeks get busier and busier but we are going to try to fit a Reward Time (bench ball session) in on Tuesday afternoon.

Try this Maths Challenge; can you work out the number?

This number is a multiple of 11 and 7. The product of its digits is 6.

Any correct answers handed to me will get a reward point.

Week 4: What are your views on poaching?

Through reading our class text, we learn that Danny's dad is a poacher. What do you think about this? Does this make him a bad person? Share your views on the Blog.
Following a very rainy weekend, I think we may be in for some colder weather this week. Please remember your coats for playtimes, and of course your wellies  if you would like to play on the field.

Sunday, January 19, 2014

Week 3: Danny the Champion of the World

I hope you all enjoyed our special visitor Anthony Pedley, who 'kicked off' our Once Upon A Time topic last week. I am really excited about reading and studying 'Danny' in great depth. What questions would you like to ask Danny about living in a caravan?
Please remember your full PE kits for the Rugby session on Monday afternoon with our visitor from AMVC. Maths Booster sessions will be on Tuesday this week instead of Wednesday.
Thank you for your comments on the Blog last week with your ideas about how the story should continue. With our 'Punctuation' focus this term, you need to check that your comments are punctuated carefully; I hope I don't have to remove any comments for 'sloppy' recording. Come on, you can do it!

Sunday, January 12, 2014

Week 2: Once upon a time...

This week we will be having a special visitor to introduce this term's topic...
Using this traditional story starter we are going to try to start a class story by adding only one (accurately punctuated) sentence each.
Once upon a time, in a deep, dark forest, there stood a tiny cottage.

Spring term 2014: Week 1- Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!
At the start of the New Year we celebrate the Epiphany? Why? How?
People sometimes make New Year Resolutions... have you made any? I hope you all had an amazing Christmas holiday with your families and friends. It will soon be time to get ready to go back to school on Tuesday. Please remember to pack your full PE kit including a sweatshirt and joggers as the weather is getting colder.
