Summer Term 2014: Here, there and everywhere...

Welcome back everyone!
I hope you have all had a great Easter break and are ready for your final term at Barnack School.
This term's topic has a Geography focus and we will be learning about places in Great Britain, in Europe and around the world.
Have you visited an interesting place during your holiday? Can you locate it on a map and explain where it is?

Hello Mrs Green,
I had a really fun Easter holiday I did a lot. I can't wait to see everyone back at school and hear about what they did in there holidays. I stayed at home in the holidays but I have visited America/Florida in the summer holidays last year and also I have been to Porgi when I was 4 or 5 when we went. I think we went twice or once I can't really remember. See you all tomorrow.

Hello Mrs Green,
I had a wonderful holiday. It wasn't this easter holiday we went but we went to Madeira at christmas. Madeira is an island in the Atlantic ocean which belonngs to Portugal. It was home to Chrisiphor Columbus.

The Patron saint of Scotland was St Andrew.

Facts about St George:
•Beheaded at Lydda in Palestine
• He was only seventeen when he joined the armey.
•In 1222, the Council of Oxford declared April 23 to be St George’s Day and he replaced St Edmund the Martyr as England’s patron saint in the 14th century. In 1415, April 23 was made a national feast day.

The paintron saint of Scotland was Andrew the Apostle.

While St. George is indeed the patron saint of England, with his familiar red cross flag, dragons to slay and fair maidens to rescue, he’s been claimed by a few other countries along the way too. In fact, 20 other countries name him as their patron saint: Egypt, Bulgaria, Aragon, Catalonia, Romania, Ethiopia,Greece, India, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, Serbia, Macedonia, Ukraine, Russia and Syria.

And that’s not counting the cities of Genoa, Amersfoort, Beirut, Botoşani, Drobeta Turnu-Severin, Timişoara, Fakiha, Bteghrine, Cáceres, Ferrara, Freiburg im Breisgau, Kragujevac, Kumanovo, Ljubljana, Pérouges, Pomorie, Preston, Qormi, Rio de Janeiro, Lydda, Lviv, Barcelona, Moscow and Victoria.
Beiges real name was Georgios.

Hi Mrs Green,
I had a really fun holiday. I went to Oxford for the first week we visited lots of museums and old places which was really exciting. When I got back from Oxford I went to a camp near Irthlingborough where we did a lot of really fun activities like archery, climbing, raft building(I got very wet) and bush craft (making dens and fires).

I really enjoyed my Easter holidays and I hope you all did to.

From Edward

P.S the patron saint of Scotland is St. Andrew and it is celebrated on the 30th of November.
